The puppet

“You better study hard now so you could have a good job in the future! Act like a normal adult! Work hard so you could earn a lot of money! Pay your taxes! Vote for your leader! Believe in what the media tells you! Follow the trend! Have faith in your God! Obey the law! Send your children to school! Eat “healthy”! Save for your old age! Watch television! Spend all your money on things you don’t need! Spend more time for work than with your children! Ignore people in need! Settle for a higher paycheck than what your dream job could ever offer! Drink coffee! Live in fear! Die in fear!”

Says the voice inside her dream. She wakes up, eyes staring blankly, face pale as ever. She realizes she’s all alone- not that today is any different from the other days. She gets ready for school, takes a bath, dress in her proper uniform to arrive just in time for class. She reads on her way to school for today would be a special day, it’s examination day. She finishes just in time to hand over her papers. There are no words coming out of her mouth, but a tear escaping her eyes as she walks down the hallway. The other students from her same building just walking past her, barely noticing her presence. Some laughing loudly, talking about how they could pass their courses with flying colours, talking about how to celebrate the commencement of flipping through pages, some excited, most nervous. She goes home, switched the television on and stare at it ’til the rest of her afternoon. She goes back to her own world where no one is around but her and the voice..
